Wrapping holiday gifts can prove to be as costly as the gifts themselves. However, saving some old potato chip bags will save you money!
Money Mondays: Trends in market?
Posted by Larry Holmes December 1, 2008 at 8:14 am
(NECN) - It was the best of both worlds last week.
Mortgage rates came down, and the stock market went up.
Is the trend going to continue?
Joining Good Morning Live on Monday to answer this question is Barry Armstrong, host of “Money Maters” on WBIX and a financial planner with Securities America Advisors.
Here… and gone!

Thanks to everyone who made week one of our new ‘Project Half Price’ campaign such a success. Our certificates for Bricco, Mare and Trattoria il Panino sold out less than 40 minutes after their official sale time of 8am.
So, if you missed out - don’t despair. We are going to be selling certificates every Friday at 8am. Coming up Friday, December 5 - gift certificates for Asian C, the wonderful Chinese and Japanese restaurant, just south of Boston in Hingham, Massachusetts.
Remember, the certificates go on sale each Friday at 8am in limited quantities. And when they’re gone, they’re gone!
Update: More on Project Half Price deals this week
Posted by Ted McEnroe November 25, 2008 at 6:58 pm
So, I promised more on our Black Friday kickoff for the new NECN site “Project Half Price” - and here’s how it works. Think of it like the Filene’s Basement ‘Running of the Brides’, but without the pushing, the shoving, or the lace.
It works this way. Every Friday at 8am, you can go to our Project Half-Price site (necn.projecthalfprice.com), and there will be restaurant gift certificates on sale. $100 gift certificates for $50, or $50 gift certificates for $25. But they will always be in limited quantities - and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
For week one, we are starting with certificates to three of Frank de Pasquale’s great Boston restaurants - Bricco, Mare, and Trattoria il Panino. You pay $50, and get $100 worth of great food. Three different tastes of Italy - one great price.
Click on the link here - or go to NECN.com and click on the Project Half Price banner to see what we’re offering on Project Half Price.
A source for holiday coupons - in a not-so-likely place
Posted by Ted McEnroe November 25, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Image via WikipediaThe techies in your life probably already know Chris Pirillo. He’s one of the most popular tech bloggers out there - in fact, if you search “Chris” in Google… he’s the first name on the list. (Take that, Chris Brown, Chris Columbus, even NECN’s own Chris Collins.)
But one of the things Chris has done on his site is provide coupons and links to great deals. And for the holidays, Chris is reaching well beyond tech to aggregate coupons from dozens of places - including definite non-tech places like Liz Claiborne.
Check out the video, and visit www.pirillo.com - click on coupons.

Our own effort to save you money - Project Half Price
Posted by Ted McEnroe November 24, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Well, we spend a fair amount of time here sending you to other places to save money. But starting this Friday, we’re going to bring some savings closer to home. Starting Friday at 8am, we are making gift certificates to some of the area’s best restaurants available to you at half price.
Is there a catch? No. New gift certificates each week, and we may expand the program to include other businesses this winter. But each week’s supply is limited - so you have to be quick. Gift certificates available at 8am could be gone minutes later. In that case, you have to wait a week for a new batch to become available.
More details are available if you click here - check out the site at http://necn.projecthalfprice.com, or click on the Project Half Price button in the lower left corner of necn.com.
The details of this week’s first batch of gift certificates will be coming soon.

Is it time to lock in oil? Maybe…
Posted by Ted McEnroe November 19, 2008 at 8:04 pm
For a while now, financial advisor Barry Armstrong has been telling his clients not to lock in on heating oil. But now, Armstrong says, he’s changing his tune. Listen here for his explanation.
OK, it’s not exactly a cost SAVER…

But if you are blessed enough to get through on the web or on the phone for Red Sox tickets that first weekend they go on sale, the fact that they froze ticket prices for the 2009 season does make those tickets feel more like a bargain.
Of course, meteorologist Tim Kelley is spinning it a little differently in his head - he just pointed out it’s equally accurate to note the Sox missed a chance to really win with the fans by cutting some ticket prices.
Touche, Mr. Kelley. Touche.
