Save money with wood boilers, just not in N. Smithfield

North Smithfield has become the first town in the Ocean State to restrict wood boilers, a cheap source of heat. The new regulations come after an increasing number of Rhode Islanders turned to wood boilers as the cost of oil and electricity skyrocketed.
The boilers can produce thick clouds of black smoke.

The wild ride on Wall Street may be hard to watch, but there is an upside to the economic turmoil. Cheaper oil, and cheaper gas. Oil has sunk to a one-year low. Gas is now $3.40 a gallon on average nationwide, according to AAA. And you can expect to see prices keep dropping — maybe even below $3 a gallon soon.
